Toyota Camry 'Rowdy' Edition: NASCAR driver takes mild to wild
Though the standard car is not exactly renowned for excitement, the Toyota Camry 'Rowdy' Edition is one version of the family sedan that's set to get hearts racing, but luckily those of a younger demographic.
Built under the watchful eye of US NASCAR driver Kyle Busch for the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge, the exceptionally tame 2012 Toyota Camry SE has been transformed into the feisty Toyota Camry 'Rowdy' Edition – named after Busch's 'Rowdy' handle stemming from his on-track nature.
With a hand-formed custom wide-body kit, custom front and rear underbody aero panels, custom front air splitter, custom rear diffuser, rear wing, and a custom dual exhaust system, this Toyota Camry would surely upset those at the bowls club.
Inside, things get a little more 'Rowdy' with black and red leather Lexus IS F bucket seats up front, reupholstered seats in the rear, red stitching highlights, and a red-trimmed gear shifter.
One-off 'Rowdy' Edition sills also join branded red brake calipers.
Busch says the modifications, carried out by Detroit Speed and Engineering (DSE), were designed to give the car the stance, attitude and handling of a road-race car while still retaining the functionality of a production Camry.
"This looks like something we should run at Daytona and Talladega," he said.
The Toyota Camry 'Rowdy' Edition will premiere on October 30 at the 2012 SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas alongside its Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge competitors with the winning entry landing its builder a US$50,000 ($48,475) cheque from Toyota to be donated to the their chosen charity.
